College

The college is named after the country’s prominent freedom fighter, great administrator and the recipient of the Bharat Ratna-- Sh. Govind Ballabh Pant, and is duly affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University (Shimla). This college came into existence in July, 1959 but was formally inaugurated on 11th November, 1959 by Raja Bajrang Bahadur Singh of Bhadri estate, the then lieutenant Governor of Himachal Pradesh. Situated on the left bank of the river Satluj, the college is on the national highway no. 5 and at a distance of about 130 km from the historical town of Shimla, the capital city of Himachal Pradesh.

The college is a co-educational institution and imparts meaningful education in the faculties of Humanities, Science, Commerce, Vocation, and Computer Applications. After its inception in 1959 for undergraduate programmes, the year 1994 marked its new phase of academic development with the opening of Postgraduate classes in the subject of Hindi, English, Commerce, History, Economics, and Political Science. In the year 2017, the new PG courses in the subject of Sociology, Geography, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Physics and Mathematics were introduced. The self- finance course of Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) was started in the academic session 2010-11, based on the feedback of the stakeholders. The skill-oriented Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) was added to the programmes of the college in the year 2017. The primary objective for the implementation of these courses is to empower the youth with practical knowledge that will lead to quality employment and income generating opportunities.

The college campus has a green cover of trees, a sprawling playground and a well-equipped auditorium that provide a healthy ambience for the holistic growth of the students beyond their classrooms. It is surrounded by the scenic beauty of hills that provides the students with ample green space to learn and interact in a lively fresh environment. With modern laboratories and a library, the learning experience of the students become extensive and practical. There are three girls’ hostels and one boys’ hostel which make the college an ideal centre for learning and knowledge. The physical infrastructural facilities in the college have expanded over the years to meet the new demands and also to provide better learning environment to the students. A new Science Block with modern amenities will soon become functional. The institution provides a judicious amalgamation of academics, sports, extra-curricular activities and extension activities for the development of mental and physical prowess of the students. The students are motivated to follow the motto of the college that focuses on the knowledge that leads to self-realisation and liberation.

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has awarded grade ‘B’ to the college for providing quality Higher Education to the students. The college has experienced and qualified teachers who are fully committed to guide and support the students to achieve new academic heights and acquire new skills. The institution draws its strength from the combined efforts of its staff, students and other stakeholders to excel in academics, in extra-curricular activities and in administration.
