The department of English at G.B. Pant Memorial Govt. College, Rampur Bushahr is one of the most illustrious departments of the college. The guiding spirit of the department is its creative diversity as it deals with a curriculum that covers literature and theoretical paradigms from different countries. The department offers courses to the students of different disciplines and thus, it promotes interdisciplinary dialogue and knowledge based on critical thinking.

Vision and Mission of the Department:

The department believes in the moral aspect of teaching as its curriculum primarily deals with various literary and theoretical texts that can help students in imbibing moral values and ethics and in maturing into responsible and aware members of the society. The department imparts knowledge through literary history, literary forms and literary theory with a wide array of texts. This type of pedagogy provides students with critical understanding of indigenous and foreign culture through translated texts that explore concepts like identity, gender, race and globalisation.

SOCH Literary Society:

SOCH (Students of Creative Harmony) Literary Society is an initiative of the Department of English, Rampur Bushahr, that aims at the overall growth and personality of the students through literary, cultural and community outreach activities. A major objective of SOCH is ‘welfare through empowerment’ and inculcating a spirit of ‘sharing and giving’ amongst the students and participants. The society has been formed with a vision of bringing out the best creative expression in the students, developing harmony through creativity and building team spirit through academic and cultural participation.

The primary focus of the society is on issues pertaining to:

• Promotion of literary activities.
• Learning creative writing skills.
• CInculcating creative thinking.
• Encouraging multi-cultural local folk activities.
• Understanding environmental concerns in modern times.
• Raising social awareness through community outreach programmes like winter clothes donation and women empowerment related activities.
