The department of Zoology came into existence in 1974. Initially began with only undergraduate courses but now has started the post graduate course also, from the year 2017. It has dedicated teaching faculty and non-teaching staff. The faculty members are highly innovative and make best use of traditional teaching techniques blended with modern technologies for best outcomes in teaching process. The department maintains high standard of education through periodic tests, quizzes, seminars, field work and projects. The laboratories are well equipped and cater to the need of every student to develop scientific temper in them. The syllabus prescribed by the Himachal Pradesh University aims at introducing students to the subject of Zoology in such a way that it not only creates interest of the students in the subject but also allows them to pursue careers in it. The introduction of Skill Enhancement Courses in the syllabi has further elaborated the scope of entrepreneurship in the subject of Zoology.

Department Motto

Department of Zoology focuses on the diversity of animals and how they survive, thrive and persist on the Earth. We try to impart knowledge of diversity, morphology, physiology, biochemistry, development of animals, genetics and their evolution from the simplest forms, which were initially marine, to the present day complex forms having diverse niche. This knowledge bridges the understanding of human existence in coherence with the rest of the lives existing on the blue planet. How sustainability and adaptation to change by learning can enhance the longevity of life is the direct motto of the department of Zoology.

Vision

To inculcate scientific temper in the learner and build up a legacy of well groomed graduates and postgraduates that adds to the human resource of the Nation. To impart them the practical skills in various skill based courses so as to make them capable of being entrepreneurs.

Mission

To equip the students with well scored undergraduate and post graduate degrees that adds to their Curriculum Vitae and sensitize them about the human pedestal in the ecosystem so as to understand the responsibility of being human.

Teaching Plan

Moving further without a plan is like aiming in the dark. Though the student teacher ratio is not appropriate to the UGC norms at present but the department has overcome this odd by investing the time and infrastructure in a very judicious manner. The contact programme with the students has no doubt gone down in the COVID-19 time but still the department works labouriously to cover the milestone.

The time table of offline and online classes are adhered to and at the same time due consideration is kept in mind that each student is directly checked for his/her assignments projects and practicals. Peer reviewed videos and their links are shared with the students whatsapp group. Each teacher deals with three classes everyday thoroughly.We make sure to maintain a good record of class attendance and the students participation through PPT presentations online.
